The Rosendal Blacksmith’s Stables
This is likely Rosendal’s oldest building, dating from before the town’s founding in 1908. A property deed was issued retroactively in 1912 when the town was first properly surveyed, and which is the first written record, although there are many other buildings in Rosendal from this year also. The design incorporates a long sandstone barn, typical of the rural Free State, and with gable end roof trusses added later. A blacksmith’s shop with livery stables is known to have operated from here at what was a prominent site in the town’s early years, next to the Senekal to Ficksburg crossroads at Kriek and Van der Merwe Street and between the Post Office and General Dealer store.

The Bank Manager's House
A building was erected on this site in 1912, according to local records, eventually housing a Volkskas Bank. It operated up until the 1970s and, in the latter years, was open one day a week when bank staff would be brought up from Ficksburg.
Built of local sandstone in a simple, post-Edwardian, style the building incorporates both a residential and commercial design. The banking hall, located on the north-west side of the property, was accessed directly from the street. The remainder of the building comprised the bank manager’s home—a well appointed two bedroom house with tall, pressed tin, ceilings and large sash windows laid out in English style with living and dining rooms, kitchen and separate pantry. The bank ceased operation in the early 1980s after which it became a private home.
