Rosendal’s heritage buildings have been meticulously restored by owner, Douglas Mason, a Canadian journalist, ex UN peace keeper and diplomat, who began calling Rosendal home after a career all over Africa in hot spots from Rwanda and Congo to Angola and Mozambique. Douglas arrived in Rosendal in 2012 while on R & R from Nord Kivu province in eastern Congo where he was working as a journalist and running a boxing club for ex-child soldiers. Still a working journalist, now and then he leaves on assignment, most recently Ukraine.
